Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets The Beloved Duo Versus a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 years since the first Toy Story film debuted, launching the animation giant as a major film company and bringing audiences to beloved characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a glimpse into the plot but keeping viewers wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys
In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — getting a brand new plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser avoids is why the sheriff is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Connections from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the badge pinned to her outfit.
It is hoped she is still the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
